About PaperDolls

Mission Statement

PaperDolls is an advertisement-free, Web-based, girl-positive magazine that provides frank, multi-sided, and well-researched articles and interviews that are relevant and interesting to teenage girls.”

PaperDolls is a new online magazine created for teen girls. By “teen girls,” we mean anyone who is a teen and identifies as a girl regardless of sexual orientation, racial identity, or socio-economic status. The magazine presents multiple points of view through frank and well-researched articles that are relevant and interesting to today’s teen girl. Our voice is fresh and casual without undermining the seriousness of the issues faced by young people today. We intend to talk to girls the way we wish we had been talked to in high school and the way that girls talk to each other. We do not underestimate the intelligence and interest level girls have surrounding the events affecting their lives and the lives of those around them.

Articles in PaperDolls run the gamut from current events to do-it-yourself tips. We run interviews, health articles, reviews, and fiction, and poetry, along with a host of other feature articles and the “Letter from…” exposing girls to what’s going on for teens in different parts of the country and the rest of the world. Amy, our sex advice columnist, answers questions in every issue based on her experience as a human sexuality educator. Amy teaches comprehensive sex education, something we firmly believe in. “The Debate Teen” is a section we will publish in every issue, wherein we present a timely and controversial issue and teen readers have the chance to respond according to the personal viewpoints. Several different responses/points of view will be published with equal attention given to each side.

PaperDolls relies a great deal on submissions for content. Submissions come from both adult and teen girls. We are dedicated to maintaining an open dialogue with our audience and featuring their work is one of the ways we maintain this ideal.

PaperDolls is committed to treating girls as valuable members of society and not as marketing tools. We hold ourselves accountable to this by not posting any paid advertising in our content or on our Web space. We believe that without the influence of advertising, girls have the ability to make unbiased decisions and judgments about the content in our magazine and the world around them.

PaperDolls is a nonprofit magazine currently working toward 501 (c) 3 nonprofit status.
